Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers (-4)
This is a pretty important matchup for a Week Four game. The Eagles, an expected NFC favorite coming into the season, have sputtered. They beat D.C. in Week One after spotting them a three score lead, and then follow that up with losses on the road to Atlanta and at home to Detroit. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they have had injuries to deal with. The good news is Alshon Jeffrey returns tonight, the bad news is Desean Jackson, Ronald Darby, Corey Clement and Timmy Jernigan are all out. That is bad news bears for an offense that needs its playmakers out there, and a defense that has not lived up to its preseason hype.
While the Eagles defense has been disappointing, the Packers defense has people doing a double-take. They are a major reason Green Bay is undefeated after three games. The Packers defense is playing better than it has at, maybe, any point in Aaron Rodgers’ career. The offense is also getting better as the season is starting to wear on and Rodgers and Matt LaFleur get more comfortable with one another. There is reason for optimism in Green Bay for the first time in a few years.
At the end of the day I have two plays on this game. First I think the Eagles will look better offensively than they have in the last few weeks, because they are getting healthier on that side of the ball. Defensively, however, I don’t think there will be much improvement, particularly in the secondary. Their secondary will make you want to throw up in your mouth a little bit. The Packers, should be able to pick them apart. I think that helps us with the total, and also I think Rodgers is playing at a considerably higher level than Wentz right now. Also factoring in the game will be in front of a raucous Green Bay crowd and I’ll lean that way as well.
