Jack Mac Might Not Make It Out of the Building Alive Tonight. Seriously.
Alright, let me set the scene for all of you. I’m riding the LIRR on the way into the office this morning to do our live streaming, when I get a text message. It’s a group text that Jack Mac is a part of and the topic of the UMass football team comes up and quickly we start discussing some information he has heard about the game today. The suspensions were part of it. The team basically hating their coach was part of it. But there was more. Something juicier. Something that as a gambler when you hear, you have no choice but to bet. And I’m not talking your usual bet. When you hear what I heard, what most of us in the office heard from Jack Mac, you have to go heavy. You simply have no choice. He asked you to trust him. You did. I did. We all did. He asked me if I wanted to be a part of history for Christ’s sake. He said documentaries would be made about this UMass team. Keep in mind this is a UMass team with a couple dozen people in attendance today.
Anyway, I digress. I decided based on the nature of this tip, I wanted to bet this with an actual sportsbook to ensure payment upon my inevitable victory. So I got off the LIRR and hopped on the PATH train to Hoboken, where I sat amongst an “interesting” collection of individuals in the train station waiting room. Then I got limited by books. So I had to spread my bet around through four different sports books. After finally making my bets, I came back to the office to watch our Zips triumph.
Only that wasn’t what happened. Not at all. UMass came out and whipped Akron’s ass. Thoroughly. On all sides of the ball. Game wasn’t close, even when the score was. So here I sit, in our dark office at 7:20pm on a Saturday night. I’m broke and I’m angry. Having said that. I would do it all over again if given the chance. As a gambler when someone says “I have a tip” or something of that nature, if you’re a true gambler you will take that bet every single time. Every. Single. Time. I would do it again tomorrow.
Now. Having said all that, Jack Mac clearly has a price to pay for asking for our trust and not delivering. I personally would like to see more emotion out of him. I would like to see him on the phone with his “source”, screaming and cursing. I haven’t seen any of that. That’s my biggest disappointment. I want to see emotion. I want to see hate. I want to see fear. And again, just to be clear, I actually really like Jack Mac. But actions have consequences. You send that tip out and lose fucking OUTRIGHT, you have to be held responsible. The only thing left to do is win the rest of the god damned games on the board. Let’s do it.
