Good Ol' Canadian Boy Won $1.2 Million After Putting $2.25 Into A Slot Machine, The Absolute Dream
Montreal - A recently retired Saguenay man in his 50s will never forget a family visit to the Charlevoix region that turned him into a millionaire.
On Friday night, the man, who wants to remain anonymous, won nearly $1.2 million after slipping a total of $2.25 into a slot machine at the Casino de Charlevoix in La Malbaie.
Loto-Québec said the man won $1,196,769 from a Powerbucks slot machine — the biggest jackpot in the casino’s history.
The winner and his family celebrated the winnings in the casino’s VIP lounge.
“He was calm — relatively calm,” said casino spokesperson Marc Giasson. “Maybe it had not quite hit him.”

This story made me recall my younger days of going to casinos. I would bust a poker tournament, degen some away in blackjack, walk around wonder if I’ll ever have more than $800 in my bank account, and then sit at a slot machine for the free drinks. Play those slots as slow as possible and hope to get a few vodka sodas in me before they realized I’ve been playing the same $10 for the last hour. The good ol’ early days of just turning 21, wanting to play poker, but being dead broke.
And now I read this guy put $2 into a slot machine and won $1.2 MILLION?! That’s the dream. The absolute dream. I don’t know if I want to be mad or jealous or happy for him or what. Because on one hand it’s all I’ve ever wanted- to hit it big in Vegas. To go on a sick run in blackjack, or win a poker tournament, or have the ball land on black 10 times in a row where I keep increasing my bets. It rarely happens for me in Vegas or AC. But this retired Canadian, probably wearing his throwback Doug Gilmour jersey, did one pull of the level and binked it for $1.2 milly. As I said, the absolute dream.
And what am I gonna do now? I’m gonna get back into the online poker grind. I gotta. I’m playing the Borgata Fall Open in November and need to brush up a bit. So I’m gonna head over to Jersey to play on Bet MGM. Such a no brainer.
