Thanksgiving College Football Gambling Primer

Thanksgiving is for the NFL. I hope your bets are going well so far today. Even if they are going poorly, you have two bailout opportunities tonight down south. One in Atlanta another in Mississippi.

I truly believe that Ole Miss & Mississippi State is the most hate-filled rivalry in football. Alabama-Auburn, OU-Texas, and UM-OSU compare, but there's nothing like the Egg Bowl.

Tonight is a massive night for Mississippi State. Bowl eligibility and Joe Moorhead's job are on the line. Currently, the line is a pick-em for the battle in Starkville tonight.

I think Mississippi State gets it done tonight. The leading rusher in the SEC, Kylin Hill is going to run it down Ole Miss' throat tonight. The Rebels rank 90th in rushing success on defense, 115th in stuff rate, and 70th in power success rate. Mississippi State's offensive rankings in those categories: 17th, 6th, and 18th.

Am I concerned with Ole Miss' rushing attack? Yes. John Rhys Plumlee is an electric QB who can run for an 80-yard TD whenever he pleases. Mississippi State hasn't been great against the run this year, but they have been without DT Lee Autry, LB Williy Gay and safety Marcus Murphy for most of the season. They are all playing tonight. That will be big to stop Ole Miss' one-dimensional offense.

Mississippi State has played an offense similar to Ole Miss' before. In their win against Kentucky, they held Lynn Bowden to 37 yards. Kentucky wasn't the offense they are now when they played at Miss State, but that is encouraging.

Bulldogs win.
