Everything In The World Has Been Canceled Or Postponed...Except For The WSOP!
MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL, NASCAR, marathons, the Olympics, ice fishing, casinos, bars, restaurants, your mom, etc - all leagues, activities and businesses that are closed for the foreseeable future. Who knows when Ovi will step foot on the ice again. The Olympics have been pushed to Summer of 2021. Your mom is offering 2 for 1 discounts and getting no takers. But there is 1 business that has yet to make a decision- The WSOP.
The World Series of Poker is set to start in just under 2 months. Everything on the Vegas strip is completely closed right now
But yet, despite it all, mum is the word from WSOP.
And honestly, it makes no sense.
Yes I understand it's still 2 months away, but the WSOP is different than say, the NBA. You can't test the participants of the WSOP like you can test every player in the NBA. People come to Vegas from every corner of the world, every state and every country, to play cards. People sneeze and touch the chips which obviously then get passed around the table. There is no way, zero way, to protect the World Series from an outbreak if it runs. It's just that simple- if it runs, there is a high likelihood COVID19 will be there.
And who would even play it? Who would take that chance? We actually talked to one of the smartest people in poker about that on last week's podcast, Matt Berkey.
We all agree there's a 0% chance it runs as is. Maybe they move it to the Winter, but even still, how safe would having 10's of thousands of people from across the globe all packed into one building? It only takes 1 person to start this whole shit show all over again.
All I know is that when the dust settles, I can't wait to go back to Vegas to play poker. It's going to be nerve wracking for sure. There's no doubt about that. But at some point we'll have to return to normalcy. And I want to be there when it happens, but just not this Summer, that's for sure.
This week on the podcast we *should* be having on the CEO of ACR (where I lost a billion dollars this last week). We will talk about if his site is legal, if the lawyers are wrong for shutting down my stream, and problems with his site that need fixing. I have lots of thoughts. Make sure to subscribe to have it when it drops. And listen to last week's episode where I talk about why it was shut down in the first place.
