It's Opening Day For Baseball And We're Coming Out Of The Gate With Winners
Finally. It's Opening Day on the 2020 Major League Baseball season. It may not be early spring. There may not be spectators in the seats. Hell, the game may even look a little different this year. But at least we are getting baseball back. In a time where our country is in a state of constant peril, it is nice to have the distraction of baseball. So, let's sit back and enjoy this sprint of a baseball season, unlike any other ever played before. The only thing better than enjoying the games, will be winning when we bet on them. So, to that end, I have put together my two bets on tonight's two openers. Play ball!
New York Yankees (-135) at Washington Nationals (O/U 7.5)
Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer are two of the top pitchers in all of baseball, and they will go head to head with one another to kick off this season in D.C. I was very tempted to take the Nats as dogs here, but ultimately, I don't think that's the best bet on the board. The Nationals are still a very good hitting team, even with the loss of Anthony Rendon, as they add Carter Kieboom to the lineup. The Yankees have, undoubtedly, one of the best lineups in baseball. While these two starters are dominant, I don't think they go more than a handful of innings. I think these lineups ultimately get a chance to do what they do best: score.
THE PICK: Over 7.5
San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers (-297, O/U 8.5)
This is a mismatch and could get ugly early. Clayton Kershaw dominates the rival Giants, and now the Giants are without Buster Posey for this season. Johnny Cueto is no match for this Dodgers lineup, which is as daunting as there is in all of baseball. I liked the over earlier, but it drifted up a full run, and I'm not sure the Giants can hold up their end of the bargain. I'll go with Los Angeles and lay the run line to create some semblance of value here.
THE PICK: Dodgers -1.5 (-138)
