No Tricks... Only Treats
Halloween is one of the most overrated holidays of the year. I legit enjoyed Halloween for 4 years of my life... college. As a kid it was decent, never great. Plus if it was on a school day you got out at 2:30 and it got dark by 5:30 , so what you got 2 hours of walking around to go earn your haul of Reese's ? As a teen your in that middle ground of being too old to get candy and too scared to cause trouble. Sucks. College was really the only time I enjoyed it. Made for college holiday. As an adult , as KFC has covered the cubes is a nightmare for halloween, plus people take costumes way to serious. Pass.
However, halloween provided one of the best regular season college football games I have ever seen, and it just so happened to be while I was in college. We'll get to that later.
In terms of the picks, I'm not one to toot my own horn but ANOTHER 4-1 week +3.69 units as a result of some move the line to plus money advice via Barstool Sportsbook. Total run is now 18-4 for +19.59 units .
Let's recap last week's selections :
- Double Digit Underdog worth a stab on the ML is ____ ? : Texas St +290 .... LOSS
- Bonus Pick : UL Monroe +13.... WINNER
- The team I think wins in a blowout and would bump the line to lay 3 points more is ___ ?
- Ohio St -24 at +114 ... WINNER
- Ohio St -27.5 +155 ... WINNER
- - ___ vs ___ is my under of the week : Arizona / Washington UNDER 46.5 .... WINNER
Shtick aside ... I cannot stress it enough to prep before all your bets. Look at injuries , look at stats, look at trends, and always bet responsibly. Here we go.
- Michigan Michigan St pick is
The key here is can Michigan have an above average day throwing the ball. The Wolverines are ranked 104th in passing yards per game, and Michigan St is ranked 121st in pass yards allowed per game. If Michigan is looking to break the game open they'll have to figure out a way to air it out better than they have been. I'm banking on that not being the case. I think Sparty is fired up for the Barstool College Football Show to be in town. I think they are sick of seeing that zero next to Michigan's name in the loss column and frankly I think in a close game catching above 3 allows me to have a 20-17, or 27-24 game and still be ok. I liked it better at +4.5, but I'm on Sparty +4 here as I think they have every chance to win the game.
- My best bet is
Buffalo -13.5 is the answer. Some notes - Bowling Green ranks 119th in points per game, 118th in yards per game, 65th in pass yards per game, and 127th in rush yards per game. Buffalo's Pass D is 41st in the country so even the one thing BG does well Buffalo is set up to stop it.
Buffalo ranks 37th in PPG , and 31st in rush yards per game. Bowling Green is 105th in rush yards allowed per game.
Buffalo will likely have RB Kevin Marks back who averages 4 yards a carry. He'll be teamed with an already impressive RB core of Dylan Mcduffie 5.7 yards per carry and Ron Cook Jr 5.8 yards per carry.
The Bulls are 8-2 in the Last 10 ATS as a home favorite. They are also 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 home games.
Buffalo QB Kyle Vantrease is from Ohio (the home state of Bowling Green) and has stuck it to the Falcons in his last two starts 49-7 and 42-17.
There is a little rain in the forecast up north, but it's expected to stop by kickoff. Either way- I think Buffalo's ground attack gets going early and often and sticks it to Bowling Green by a big number.
Bonus pick : Buffalo Team Total over 32.5 points
- _ vs is my favorite over
I will take Duke/ Wake Forest Over 70 here. These two teams combined to score 70 ppg, and give up 57.9 ppg and 882 combined yards per game. Wake's been hanging it on people and Duke is spunky enough to score the 24-28 needed to get the job done.
- A 2 team ML parlay worth a stab is __
This could hurt my record here but I'm going to give out a few combos and hope one hits. I think everyone of these games will be close and these teams will all be in it. Here it goes :
FSU +285 / UNC +135 pays out +805
Virginia +115 / TCU +140 pays out +416
Michigan St +145 / Colorado St +114 pays out +424
Feel free to mix and match those combos as you please for what you like as the best option of a two teamer.
For shits and giggles …
That 6 teamer pays +24377 . The first 10 people who bet it and win and tags me on twitter with a shareable bet slip gets an additional piece of merch on me. Consider it a Halloween gift.
- Best regular season CFB game I have ever seen is
Wanted to end on a positive note here and talk quickly about one of the best college football regular season games I have ever seen. I was a senior in college and had just started my yearly tradition of trying to find a team outside the preseason top 10 to take a flyer on as National Champions. All football camp that August I was gushing over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The high flying offense led designed by Mike Leach was a perfect match for their QB Graham Harrell and standout Wide Receiver Michael Crabtree.
The Red Raiders started off 8-0 and reached #5 in the polls before a MONSTER matchup hosting #1 Texas on 11/1/2008. It was a Saturday night, the primetime ABC game with Gameday in town and Uncle Brent Musburger on the call.
Halloween weekend, the entire campus going bonkers, Texas Tech jumped out to a 22-6 halftime lead. But Texas stormed back taking a 33-32 lead with 1:29 to go. I'll let the video tell the story of how it ended.
Just push him out of bounds !!! Texas will never get over that one . Texas Tech got all the way to 10-0 and #2 in the BCS polls before losing to eventual runner up Oklahoma, ending my dream of nailing the championship pick. I'll stay say for my money that Texas Tech-Texas game was the best I've seen.
