Rico Bosco's "Bosco's Bets"
Welcome back to Bosco’s Bets.
Let’s start with this. I have been on the end of wild string of quirky losses started just over a week ago with St.Bonaventure’s 1h and game losses each by .5 or 1 depending on your book, then Harvard inexplicably fouling 700 times to make the game go over, coupled with Providence blowing a 26 point lead, Monmouth blowing a 20 point lead, and (hopefully) ended last night with San Diego drilling a fall back 3 pointer to trash a BYU 2H -9 wager. Those games may have been out of order, if so I apologize, but if you followed the unraveling on Twitter you were in for a show.
- The NBA returned from the All Star Break last night, and features a full slate tonight, highlighted by Golden State-Portland, Indiana-OKC, and Toronto-Chicago. The entire slate’s odds as well as match up trends can be found here.
-The NHL has been very kind to The Rico Riders as “my guy” 3rd Line Danny is something of a savant, on a 12-2 run for +963 based on $100 wagers. Quick reminder this is all since his debut on 2/5. We’ll send out the carrier pigeon, or call the rotary house phone as he’s as Old School as they come and get to his pick later on. For now, here’s the slate of NHL games. One stat that jumped out, be aware of Buffalo as 91 % of wagers on on them tonight via OddsShark.com
-College Roundball has it’s usual schedule of wacky conferences squaring off on Friday Night. The games you want to watch are Valpo-Oakland and Monmouth-Iona. Two games featuring good teams at the top of their conferences. Here’s the full list of game and odds via OddsShark.com
Mailbag :
New feature, so make sure you comment how much you hate it.
As mentioned in this space before I hold Kansas at 8-1 and Xavier at 66-1. Given the current odds right now (as of 2/16). I think the best values are : Kentucky +1400, and Arizona +3300. I hate John Calipari personally, but facts are facts, he figures out a way to make his team play well when it gets late in the season and this team is headed that way as well. I LOVE Arizona as Allonzo Trier is back and current bracket projections are showing they will stay out West if they stay in the 2-3 seed range. I mentioned on Reags podcast, that Arizona had some major pressure on them the last two seasons and may have tightened up when it mattered most. Maybe this is the year they finally break through playing a little looser. It’s wide open so why not ?
Questions for next week are always welcome.
PICKS :
Siena -1
Point Guard Marquis Wright is back for our friend Jimmy Pastos and The Saints tonight after missing 15 games with a foot injury. He did have to get stitches on his non shooting hand last week in an art class accident, but reports out of Albany are that he’s feels good. Wright was averaging (17.3 ppg,4.9 rpg, and 4.6 apg) before being sidelined. The plan for Siena is to work him into the rotation off the bench tonight, but you got to figure if the games tight late he’s going to be in there and a difference maker. A friend of the program told me via text today when I asked if we should worry about a look ahead game to Iona next, he said ” No. He makes them go. Having Quis’ back will be enough of a spark to keep them focused on tonight’s game.” Which brings me to my next point. Siena is quietly in a great spot to control their destiny in The MAAC. With a win tonight, and an Iona loss to Monmouth, then a win versus Iona (whom they’ve already beat) Siena sits in the drivers seat for the 2nd seed. Which means avoiding Monmouth until the Finals. I really like Patsos to keep this team motivated tonight. Rider can play some people tight, but the fact is their win versus Iona on January 17th, was their only win versus anyone inside Kenpom’s top 230 ! Siena attacks the hell out of the offensive glass (13th in the country) and not only shoots the 3 well (37.9%) but effectively as only 28% of their total field goal attempts are 3’s. Like the Saints to pull away to the 8-10 range with an inspired win.
3rd Line Danny :
Flyers +105
Woof Woof Woof, the dogs are barking ! 3LD on the boys from Philly on the road. Why ? Reached via rotary phone : ” I’ll admit neither team is playing well. Flyers lost 5 of 7, and Canadians on a 3 game slope. But the frustatiion in Montreal is the issue here. Coach Michel Therrien through PK Subban under the bus in their last loss, and may even trade him. That’s a big thing for me. Loyalty. I known you for years Rico..we’re loyal. Teammates and coaches gotta be loyal. When you lose that, you lose everything ! Flyers have been in tight games and will fight tough, while Montreal’s fate may be done.”
Note : Danny also requested a Cheese Steak instead of a Pizza this weekend.
Safe travels to my friends Hank and Clem. I wish I could say I have a restaurant to recommend or “a guy” in Latvia, but even my circle doesn’t stretch that far. Just be alive when we all meet up in NYC soon. Enjoy the games Rico Riders !
Last Week : 2-2 overall. Two wild losses.
