MLB
– The surprising ?Mariners continue to rise in the World Series futures odds. As Joe Osborne writes, “After opening the season in the bottom third of the league at +4000 in World Series futures odds, the Seattle Mariners have crept into the top seven with their odds to go all the way currently sitting at +1600.
Online sportsbook Bovada has the Mariners listed as the third-best team in the American League, trailing the Red Sox (+900) and Rangers (+1200). Despite a disappointing 10-14 home record, Seattle is an MLB best 18-7 on the road — the only remaining AL team with single-digit road losses so far.”
Fun Fact: I have a very good friend who’s a die hard Mariners fan. Goes to nearly every game, every time their in town, has been to Seattle, watches MLB TV religiously etc. In 2007 as a frosh in college he bet our friend $1 that the Mariners would win the World Series with two major conditions: A- the bet would double each year until the friend wanted out of it (declaring to opt out before the season obviously) B- if the Mariners ever won, the friend who got paid every time they lost would now have to pay for The Mariners fan + his trip to the World Series parade soup to nuts. Everything from airfare, hotel, transportation, nights out to the World Series championship hat and t-shirt.
The bet started in 2007, and the friend has now been paid out a total of : $511 ($1 in 07+$2 in 08 +$4 in 09, $8 in 10, $16 in 11, $32 in 12, $64 in 13, $128 in 14, $256 in 15), and has $512 on the line this year pending.

SOCCER
– The first COPA America matchup is Friday, as USA hosts Colombia on home turf. The USA is 6-1-0 and enters the COPA with a four-game winning streak. As Andrew Avery notes : ” Moneyline markets are razor-thin as online shop Bovada is presently offering USA at +170 and Colombia at +175 while the Draw is +215. The spread is set at a Pick with USA -115 and Colombia -110. As far as the total is concerned, OVER 2 goals is -145 while UNDER 2 goals is +120.”

Other Notable Stories/Odds and Trends
– What’s that you say ? College Football is less than 100 days away and we have futures on the CFB title as well as the Heisman ?!?! God Bless America.
Here’s the odds (via 5Dimes) on the preseason Top 10 according to football guru Phil Steele :
Alabama +700, Clemson +825, Oklahoma +1100, Florida State + 1500, LSU +1050, Ohio State +1000, Michigan +1225, Stanford +3700, Tennessee +1500, Notre Dame +1800.
Full Odds for all teams are here.
I haven’t fully broken down CFB just yet , but if you want a value play at first glance, Notre Dame at +1800 is something I like a lot given their rather weak schedule. Texas in the opener is a bit of a threat but doesn’t scare me so much, and major threats Michigan State, Miami and Stanford are all at home. The biggest test is their final game at USC. I like their chances to run the table to get to that game.
– Regarding the Heisman, Justin Hartling points out a few names to AVOID when betting this future.
I loved this nugget especially, “Don’t get me wrong, McCaffrey will put up more ridiculous numbers next season, but with almost no threat of a passing game and an inexperienced offensive line, he will be facing stacked boxes and tons of pressure to carry the team. “
-The Stanley Cup resumes Saturday, for the trends on that :
Big shout out to the hardest working guy in the company, Hank. If you missed it, he was on the Dave Portnoy Show yesterday. Give it a listen. Enjoy the games !
Last Week : 1-0 on an easy Cavs win after a long hiatis .
